Soil
The soil in tropical rainforests is poor in nutrients and are acidic. Soil in the tropical rainforest is particularly very poor because the soil is more than 100 million years old.
During the 100 million years, rain wash the minerals of the soil out which make the soil acidic and poor in nutrients. Some soils are also exposed to heat and the sunlight turns the soil into red clay. Other soils cannot deal with the minerals in the rainforest and turns the minerals into compounds that cannot be used my plants.
However some areas do contain fertile soils. But fertile areas are hard to find and there are very little.
